Little Wave
FIgure 3. A Short Story

Little Wave is an analog recording studio in Montauk, NY. Created to be a relaxed space for artists to diconnect, write, and record music, and be inspired by the nature of the surrounding areas. To provide a connection to the powers of the land and wind and ocean, and to record it all using traditional methods.

The studio is centered around a 1970’s 4 track 1/2” MCI tape machine, lovingly restored and modded by Mara in Nashville, TN, and a 1970’s Chilton QM3 16 track console from London, England. Along side these are a host of vintage microphones, necessary outboard gear and effects, and various instruments, including a 1960’s Ludwig Holywood Kit, an assortment of guitars and basses, a 1960’s Fender Twin Reverb, and a Rhodes MK I electric piano.

The studio is run by Chris, the founder of Last Place Records, a vinyl focused indie label created in Austin, TX in 2018, who settled in Montauk in 2024 and is hoping to bring his love for recording to local musicians and travelers
